Ex-Korn bassist Fieldy suggests his exit was prompted by being unvaccinated
Former Korn bassist Fieldy has opened up on his reasoning for exiting the band.
The metal musician, real name Reginald Quincy Arvizu, served in the rock juggernauts from 1993 until 2021.
When asked about the reason for his departure during a recent episode of the Shady Characters podcast by Thatch Creative, Fieldy replied, “Covid happened. That’s it. I’m like, ‘I’m not going out there.’ That’s what happened, because it was new. Now, I didn’t get vaccinated or anything, but when you reflect on it, that’s what happened.”
He then elaborated on how being unvaccinated prevented him from returning to the road, adding, “They’re like, ‘We’re going to Florida’ and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get vaccinated. I’m not going.’ I go, ‘People, this is weird right now.’”
When the co-host intervened to suggest that his unvaccinated status prevented him from going on a plane to perform, Fieldy replied, “But I mean that’s kind of what happened,” before adding that it also gave him “time to sit” and question whether he wanted to still be in Korn.
He continued, “When you sit, you can reflect, and you’re just waiting until what’s next because I don’t know what the rest of this day’s going to bring.”
However, Fieldy has nothing but fond memories of those decades with Korn, sharing, “I look back at my life, and almost 30 years with Korn, that was a blast, man. I can’t explain it. It’s not easy, but it is a blast, and I don’t look back on it going, ‘That sucked’.”
The bassist then described his time with the band as “everything that everybody dreamed of”, as well as saying of his current status with Korn, “I’m retired from Korn today, but we’ll see what the day brings tomorrow.”
In 2021, when Fieldy first announced he would be sitting out from Korn’s upcoming tour, the musicians told fans that he was “dealing with some personal issues that at times have caused me to fall back on some of my bad habits and has caused some tension with the people around me”.
A year later, he played down the severity of his “bad habits” in an Instagram video, telling fans, “To clarify, when I made the statement about my bad habits, they weren’t drugs,” and stating that it was merely his penchant for drinking Bud Light “when I’m done with all my responsibilities” for the day.
He added, “I’ve never tried cocaine. I’ve never tried heroin. I drink Bud Light, man”.
