Ethel Cain becomes first transgender musician to secure top ten album in US

Ethel Cain has become the first transgender artist to secure a top ten album in the United States with her record Preacher’s Daughter.

The album was initially released in 2022 but failed to chart at the time. However, it has significantly risen in popularity since then, and last week, its newly released vinyl version made history when it entered the top ten of the US charts.

It sold over 37,000 copies in the week between April 4th and April 10th, also scoring the number one spot on the Top Album Sales chart, making Cain the first transgender artist to achieve the feat.

Cain, whose real name is Hayden Silas Anhedönia, is now set to release her sophomore album, Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You, which will hit the airwaves in August as a prequel concept record to the stories depicted on Preacher’s Daughter.

Alongside this, on March 28th, the singer announced a new UK and European leg of her Willoughby Tucker Forever Tour, which begins on August 12th in Seattle.

She has attracted a cult following in recent years for her immersive storytelling approach to songwriting, turning her tunes into an expansive artistic world. To this end, Cain is also currently writing a novel based on the characters that appear in her debut album Preacher’s Daughter.

The singer also recently eschewed her normal ethereal pop sound in favour of ambient instrumentals on her EP Perverts, which was released in January. This move reflected the diverse creative depths she will explore in exploring her artistry.
