Emmys 2024: ‘Succession’, ‘The Bear’ and ‘Beef’ emerge as the big winners
The 2024 edition of the Emmy Awards was a tough competition, not only because of the quality of the participants but also because of their wide-ranging impact on contemporary culture. Ranging from Succession to Beef, the list of winners definitely has a few standouts.
The last season of Succession didn’t just draw a massive audience, it also received widespread acclaim for its conclusion to the extensive portrait of the socioeconomic elite. It nabbed six wins at the Emmys, including major victories for the central cast members like Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, in addition to winning the coveted ‘Best Drama Series’ category.
Another expected major winner was The Bear, whose second season beautifully developed the unique culinary microcosm that was initially presented. The FX show put up stiff competition, also earning Emmy wins in six categories.
Jeremy Allen White picked up the award for ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series’ for his wonderful performance. He said: “I love the show so much, it filled me up. It gave me a passion, it set a fire in me, to match the beautiful work done by [creator] Christopher Storer and [executive producer] Joanna Calo. I love you guys, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
The surprising entry (to those who haven’t watched the amazing show) that beat out more well-known works is Beef, featuring the immensely talented on-screen partnership of Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. It picked up five Emmys in total, including a historical win for Wong.
The creator of Beef, Lee Sung Jin, revealed: “A lot of the suicidal ideation in this show was based on stuff that I and some of the folks up here have struggled with over the years. I’m really grateful and humbled by everyone who watched the show and reached out about their own personal struggles. It’s very life-affirming.”
