Emmys 2024: Jennifer Coolidge dedicates win to the “evil gays”

The latter half of Jennifer Coolidge‘s career has been revitalised due to her incredible work in the popular HBO show The White Lotus. The acclaimed actor picked up an Emmy for her hilarious performance in the second season of the series, which has already been renewed for a third.

Coolidge stole the show in both seasons of The White Lotus, starring as an obscenely rich woman named Tanya McQuoid who tries to escape from her own emptiness by vacationing at exotic locations. Simultaneously infantile and mysteriously impenetrable, Coolidge’s character work is second to none.

For her brilliant contribution to the show, Coolidge picked up an Emmy for the ‘Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series’ category. Facing competition from her own co-stars like Aubrey Plaza as well as Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn, Coolidge emerged on top.

During her acceptance speech, the actor commented on her character’s tragicomic demise in the latest season. She began: “He [creator Mike White] says I’m definitely dead, so I’m going along with it…”

Referencing how her character was targeted in the show by a group of scheming queer people in Sicily who wanted her money, she dedicated her award to them: “I want to thank all the evil gays.”

The actor added: “I had a little dream in my little town, and everyone said it wasn’t practical and it was far-fetched. It did happen, after all, so don’t give up on your dream.”
