Elvis Costello announces new UK tour

Elvis Costello has announced details of a new UK tour with his band, The Imposters.

The band, which also includes Bob Dylan’s former guitarist Charlie Sexton, will play a set of shows next summer across the UK as part of their ongoing Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello tour.

Per press materials, the tour will celebrate Costello’s work from My Aim Is True in 1977 to Blood & Chocolate in 1986, as well as promising to offer “other surprises” for fans.

The small run of headline dates will begin in Birmingham on June 13th, followed by London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 15th. Then, the tour will resume in Portsmouth at the Guildhall on June 16th and conclude on July 6th at the O2 City Hall in Newcastle.

Costello said of the run, “For any songwriter, it has to be a compliment if people want to hear songs written up to fifty years ago. Among them, ‘Radio Soul,’ the first draft of what eventually became Radio Radio’. “

He continued, “You can expect the unexpected and the faithful in equal measure. Don’t forget this show is “Performed by Elvis Costello & The Imposters”, an ensemble which includes three people who first recorded this music and two more who bring something entirely new. They are nobody’s tribute band.”

The singer-songwriter passionately concluded by heaping further praise on his bandmates, “The Imposters are a living, breathing, swooning, swinging, kicking and screaming rock and roll band who can turn their hands to a pretty ballad when the opportunity arises.”

Importantly, there is a sizeable gap between the headline dates in Costello’s calendar, which is due to his shows alongside Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts around the UK and Europe next summer.

Notable shows that Costello will play with Young next summer include Heaton Park in Manchester and Glasgow Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park.
