At this stage, Elton John has worked with pretty much everyone in the entire music industry. Over the years, his constant creative collaborating has thrown up a few surprising pairings and a Metallica team-up would certainly represent another fork in the road.
Speaking to SG Lewis on his Apple Music Show, Rocket Hour, Elton John revealed that he had worked with the famed metal band during lockdown. The intergalactic popstar boldly announced, “I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period. I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that.”
Later, the singer whose real name is Reg Dwight, added: “I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people. So I’ll get you my email, email me and let’s get together and do something, okay?”
No further details were divulged by the bespectacled star. Thus, it is unclear whether the collaboration is single a record or simply as part of Miley Cyrus’ Metallica cover album which John has played the piano on.
Cyrus had previously announced the Metallica record when speaking to Capital FM, stating: “I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano, I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars in this band. I’m so excited about this collaboration.”
If it is an independent record, then this will not represent the first time he has worked with a band on the heavier end of the spectrum, having worked with Queens of the Stone Age back in 2013.
