Elton John is “keeping busy and moving forward” despite health struggles, David Furnish reveals

David Furnish has provided a positive health update on his husband, Elton John, amid his recent health struggles.

John retired from touring in 2023 following the conclusion of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, including a headline performance at Glastonbury, which has also allowed him to focus on his health and family.

However, the legendary contracted an eye infection while on holiday in France in 2024, which has wreaked lasting repercussions on his sight. As a result, he is now fully blind in his right eye and only partially sighted in his left.

Last November, he frankly admitted in regards to his ongoing sight issues, “It’s been devastating. Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything.”

He also said that he was hopeful “someday science will help me with this one” and said “you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things”.

Now, in a new interview with Variety, ahead of the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on March 15th, Furnish has provided a positive update on his husband’s condition, stating, “He’s great. He’s battling on. He’s keeping busy and moving forward.”

Furnish continued, “He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons. That’s why he came off the road. We really love parenting, we love our family, and we love being together, and that’s everything for us.”

Despite his blindness, John is still taking to the stage on an infrequent basis, including a tribute to Brian Wilson at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony last November.

Later this year, he will mark his return to Brazil after a decade away from the Latin America country, and will headline the closing night of Rock In Rio on September 7th.
