Ellen Pompeo says the Trump administration needs to “smoke a joint, chill the fuck out”
Actor Ellen Pompeo has hit out at the Trump administration after anti-Trump protests swept America on the weekend of his 79th birthday.
Chatting to Variety at Tribeca Film Festival, the Grey’s Anatomy actor suggested that the solution to Trump’s dictatorship is “more women in power and more women in leadership.”
Pompeo reflected on how the violence encouraged by the administration seems gendered. She said, “These guys are all so angry. What is happening? I don’t know, have a sandwich, smoke a joint, chill the fuck out. What is wrong? They all want to fight and bomb each other.”
Pompeo went on to note that “women have [have] this emotional intelligence” and amid the Trump administration, “we’re dealing with a lot of low emotional intelligence and ego. I can’t say all men, obviously. I’m sorry guys, I love you.”
Anti-Trump protests, deemed ‘No Kings’ marches, swept America on the weekend of June 14th. Many celebrities, such as Mark Ruffalo and Ayo Edebiri, attended the protest, which coincided with a military parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US Army.
Recent outcry has focused on Trump’s use of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles after he deployed the National Guard to remove over 100 immigrants. Pompeo’s comments explored this shocking level of malice, as she mused, “Historically, has aggression ever served anybody?”
She continued, “I guess the benefit of a few leaders having absolute power, they feel great, [but] OK, how long is the hard-on going to last? It’s not sustainable this kind of aggression, unless you blow everything up. It’s Jim Jones, ‘Let’s all drink the Kool-Aid and say goodbye.'”
Many other superstars have used their platform to speak out against Donald Trump’s presidency. Rock hero Bruce Springsteen has delivered a speech attacking Trump’s cruel policies every night of his ongoing tour.
