The original Godfather was a movie fraught with so many difficulties that it is remarkable it ever made it screen, let alone go on to have the impact that it has had. Last month, it was announced that Jake Gyllenhaal and Oscar Isaac had been joined by Elisabeth Moss on the cast sheet of the ‘Godfather making-of’ movie, Francis And The Godfather, currently in the works. Now Oscar-nominated Elle Fanning has joined the party.
Elle Fanning will take on the role of actress Ali MacGraw who was married to The Godfather’s executive producer Robert Evans (Jake Gyllenhaal), while Oscar Isaac will play director Francis Ford Coppola and Elisabeth Moss will play his wife and creative collaborator, Eleanor Coppola.
The Barry Levinson directed ‘making-of’ will document the various study battles that Francis Ford Coppola endured to produce his highest-rated IMDb epic.
In a statement, the director declared his joy at having secured the casting of Fanning who was clearly in fine form in last year’s Mank, “Elle is one of the most exciting and versatile actresses out there. I am beyond thrilled that she has joined the terrific cast of Francis and The Godfather and will bring her unique talent to the film.”
Levinson is known for the classics Rain Man and Good Morning, Vietnam. As Francis Ford Coppola told Deadline: “Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything, will be interesting and worthwhile.”
With casting decisions still being made, it is unlikely that the film will enter production any time soon, but with the major roles continually being filled, the signs are promising.
