Electrical fire stops Journey show halfway through ‘Don’t Stop Believin”

American pop-rock act Journey were forced to finish a show prematurely on March 14th after an electrical fire broke out during a performance of their classic hit, ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’.

The band were part of the way through an appearance at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, when a sudden power outage caused proceedings to come to a halt.

In recorded concert footage that has appeared online, frontman Arnel Pineda manages to get through the opening lines of the song before the loss of power. As the audience continues to sing along as though the song has continued, Pineda also keeps singing into the microphone without any sound emerging.

The rest of the band then began to look around in a state of confusion, before the group collectively left the stage and ended the concert early, leaving fans disappointed.

The event’s organisers released a statement following the incident, which said: “Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert. We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment.”

They continued, offering to “provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”

Journey play their final scheduled tour date on March 16th in Highland, California. Guitarist Neal Schon remains the only original member of the group still performing with the band, with Pineda having been on vocal duties with the group since 2007.
