Eddie Vedder contributes new song to ‘The Bear’

Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder has contributed a cover of ‘Save It For Later’ by The Beat to the new season of Hulu’s The Bear.

Vedder’s voice has been heard in the background of the comedy drama series before, with Pearl Jam’s ‘Animal’ appearing in a previous season. Now, he has recorded a cover, which he often performs live with Pearl Jam, to feature in the series.

The cover appeared in the background of a teaser trailer that was released earlier this month, which sees Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy and Ayo Ededbiri’s Sydney preparing to open the restaurant. In the background, a soft cover of ‘Save It For Later’ could be heard.

The Beat first released the track in 1982, and it became one of their signature tracks. Between jangly guitars and Dave Wakeling’s exaggerated vocals, it’s a gloriously catchy track that has turned from playful to poignant with Vedder’s voice.

Vedder has now released the full cover on his YouTube channel. With gentle plucks, warm harmonies, and the iconic saxophone solo, the Pearl Jam vocalist turns the new wave hit into something else entirely. His emotional vocals afford the lyrics a new depth, and it’s easy to imagine his cover of ‘Save It For Later’ playing in the background of The Bear.

The third season of The Bear began streaming in the United States yesterday, on Wednesday, June 26th. It was scheduled for release on June 27th, as stated in the description for the trailer, but the release date seems to have been pushed forward.

The Hulu show has attracted a devoted audience since it first aired in 2022. It has also enjoyed impressive award success, taking home the Emmy for ‘Outstanding Comedy Series’ and acting awards for both White and Edebiri.

Meanwhile, Pearl Jam are set to spend the summer on the road for the ‘Dark Matter World Tour’. After taking to stages across North America in May, the European leg of the tour kicked off in Dublin last weekend. They are set to take to stages across Germany and Spain in the coming weeks.

Pearl Jam also have a number of festival dates lined up, including Mad Cool Festival in Spain and NOS Alive in Portugal. By the end of the summer, the ‘Dark Matter World Tour’ will return to the States, including two shows at Madison Square Garden in early September.
