Ed Sheeran to sell Jackson Pollock-inspired paintings for £900 each

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has expanded his artistic endeavours into the world of abstract painting. He’s now preparing to sell his Jackson Pollock-inspired artworks for £900 a piece.

Sheeran’s creations can be viewed at Heni Gallery in London from July 11th to August 1st. The pieces were created between sold-out shows in 2024 to allow the singer an outlet to express his emotions within a highly pressurised environment. As Sheeran painted in a disused London car park, the exhibition has been named Cosmic Carpark Paintings.

Music and art lovers alike can purchase the images for £900 each. 50 per cent of proceeds from the sale will be donated to The Ed Sheeran Foundation, which offers music opportunities and education to young people no matter their background.

Though his works have an obvious affinity to the abstract work of Jackson Pollock, it appears the mimicry wasn’t intentional. A Heni release reveals to viewers that Sheeran’s paintings are “inspired by celestial patterns,” and that these new works are “in-keeping with his well-documented, expressionist splash painting style.”

Sheeran asked friends in the art world for guidance with his paintings, which he began in earnest in 2019. He asked Damien Hirst and Joe Hage, the founder of Heni, for their advice and they encouraged him to pursue the new hobby. Speaking to The Guardian, Sheeran revealed that the love for painting runs back to his childhood: “When I was growing up, both of my parents worked in art, so I’ve naturally always been interested in it, and I always enjoyed studying art at school.”

In other news, earlier this year, the ‘Shape of You’ singer claimed he plans to stop releasing albums after his tenth, after being inspired by Quentin Tarantino. Appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Sheeran revealed that he has had a conceptual album series plan since he was 18. His next record, Play, will arrive on September 18th.

This summer, the Suffolk native will return to the home of Ipswich FC on July 11th, 12th and 13th to perform three sold-out shows at Portman Road stadium.
