Eagles donate $2.5 million to Los Angeles wildfires FireAid benefit concert
Eagles have donated $2.5 million to FireAid, the upcoming benefit concert in Los Angeles scheduled to bring together some of the biggest names in music in support of the impact left behind by the current wildfires.
Organised by Live Nation, AEG Presents, and the Irving Azoff family, FireAid is set to take place at the end of the month at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, just days before this year’s Grammy Awards. At this stage, no names have been announced for the show.
The event will provide “an evening of music and solidarity” and donate proceeds to support people and families who have experienced damage and devastation from the wildfires, many of which have lost their homes entirely.
While it is not uncertain whether the Eagles will be involved in the event as they are participating in their Las Vegas Sphere residency, Azoff has managed the band since the early 1970s, with their recent donation highlighting their continued support of his latest support relief efforts for LA wildfire victims.
Since last week, the five blazes have led to mass evacuation, large-scale destruction expected to exceed £109.7 billion, and at least 25 deaths. In the music industry alone, hundreds of artists have lost their homes or encountered significant damage, with the FireAid benefit concert slated to be a huge moment of solidarity for all those who have been affected.
With the Grammys set to commence just days after, FireAid will no doubt benefit from the surge of stars in Los Angeles, kickstarting the season’s collective efforts in support of rebuilding the city’s infrastructure.
This also follows Universal Music Group’s recent cancellation of several highly anticipated Grammys events, including the Artist Showcase and After-Grammy Party, which the company said “will redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires.”
While the Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr confirmed that the main event will proceed as planned on February 2nd, 2025, he also said that the feel of the ceremony will be adjusted slightly and “carry a renewed sense of purpose” per the wildfires, saying that they plan to raise “additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honouring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”
