Dwayne Johnson lifts lid on “really painful” cancer scare
Dwayne Johnson has lifted the lid on a recent cancer scare, confirming that he’s “fine” but describing the experience as “really painful”.
Johnson, who recently starred in the A24 movie The Smashing Machine, discovered a lump on one of his testicles while he was on the road to promote his latest film, Jumanji: Open World, which arrives later this year.
In a new interview with Esquire, Johnson shared that he kept the matter completely private at the time, explaining, “I didn’t even tell Lauren (his wife Lauren Hashian). I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
Thankfully, Johnson didn’t have cancer, adding, “By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.”
Due to his busy schedule promoting Jumanji: Open World, Johnson wasn’t able to immediately get the lump checked, which turned out to be epididymitis.
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” he admitted.
Meanwhile, in the same interview, Johnson discussed his disappointment over missing out on an Oscar nomination for his performance as Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine.
He frankly admitted, “It would have been amazing. I wish it happened. But it didn’t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, Oh, that doesn’t matter.“
Johnson, who endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, also explained why he’ll be staying away from politics going forward, sharing, “I’ve learned I’m going to keep my politics to myself.”
The action star elaborated, “Politics is omnipresent and it’s forever. I don’t like it. [Laughs.] I hate it at times. I hate the slinging. I hate all the bullshit that comes with it.”
