Dump truck slams into iconic Hollywood venue Whisky a Go Go
On May 9th, 2025, an out-of-control dump truck slammed into the famous West Hollywood music venue Whisky a Go Go.
According to reports, nobody was driving the vehicle. The truck had been left in park on Clark Street, the hilly residential road that borders one side of the club. The vehicle broke free when the brakes failed and started rolling down the hill.
In its free-wheeling journey, the truck took out six other cars. A mail truck was among the vehicles in the dump truck’s path, with the mail carrier reportedly jumping out just moments before it was struck.
It also barreled into power poles, which left the venue without power. “I was running away from it all the way from the top of the hill. The truck was chasing me, almost killing me,” one witness described.
“We heard crazy crunching and squealing from up the hill, and we both were kind of just standing there, waiting to figure out what it was,” said witness Evan Lindley. “And then we saw the truck go through the gates there and smash through the cars, and it hit the building.”
Whisky a Go Go is a historic, legendary venue with much history. For more than 60 years, the club has welcomed a long list of famous acts onto its stage. Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Motley Crue have performed there, with the latter frequenting the venue in the 1980s as a club and a performance space. They lived in a small apartment walking distance from the location.
Ironically, the show playing on May 9th at the beloved venue was a headline set by the Boy Hits Car band. The band took to their Instagram to tell fans that the crash left Whisky a Go Go without power, and it was unclear whether their show would be able to proceed as planned.
Eventually, the show was postponed, but the venue hopes to reopen on May 10th.
