Drenge - Face Like A Skull

What a difference a year can make. Back in September I gave Drenge one of their first interview experiences as a band, I asked this question:

Sheffield has produced some great bands, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, Bromheads Jacket, Milburn just to name a few, do you feel any pressure to match their success?

And, at the time, brothers Eoin and Rory shot me down in modest fashion:

“Calm down, we’ve only put up two videos! We’ve been playing music together for nearly 10 years, we starting doing shit covers of Keane to empty village halls and barn dances, and it’s always been for fun. We’d have given up years ago if we were looking for success. You’re right about Sheffield’s bands though”

Well, they might not have been looking for it, but rightfully, success has found them. I wonder what their answer would be if I asked them the same question now?

I saw the potential in Drenge and knew it was only a matter of time before they become a household name. But, what none of us could have foreseen was the very bizarre public support Drenge have received recently. Former Labour Party general election co-ordinator, Tom Watson decided to show he has ‘a real life too’ by name dropping Drenge in his resignation blog post; So: be that great Labour leader that you can be, but try to have a real life too. And if you want to see an awesome band, I recommend Drenge.”

But, all publicity is good publicity, right? Here’s what Eoin and Rory quoted recently: “I’m not totally overjoyed that it happened but at the same time I don’t really care” they continued “I’d rather people had discovered us in their own way rather than through a news story, it’s just a guy signing off in a quirky manner and mentioning us.”

Thankfully we’re going to see the band as part of this year’s wonderfully exceptional Beacons Festival line up! Anyway, here’s the new track ‘Face Like A Skull’ it’s a corker.
