Dr. Dre “doing great” after being hospitalised following a brain aneurysm
Legendary rapper Dr. Dre is reportedly “doing great” after suffering a suspected brain aneurysm and being hospitalised.
The news broke from TMZ on Tuesday, stating that sources close to Dre had revealed the musician had been admitted to the intensive care unit after falling unwell. The initial reports claimed that the mogul remained in a “stable and lucid” condition. The medical staff are allegedly still determining the cause of the bleeding on Dre’s brain before allowing him to leave the premises.
The six-time Grammy winner, who was born in Compton’s Southern Californian city, made his breakthrough in 1988 when he produced the seminal debut album by his group, N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton. Since then, he has cemented himself as a fine artist in his own right and one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time, working with the likes of Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Tupac, Eminem, Jay-Z and more.
Outside of the studio, Dre founded Beats Electronics in 2008 with legendary producer Jimmy Iovine. The Beats brand immediately became one of the most recognisable on the planet, and they then formed a streaming service called Beats Music. Both companies were then purchased in a staggering $3 billion deal, just six years after Dre and Iovine began Beats Electronics.
Dre has since taken to Instagram to give fans a positive update on his condition, posting: “Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”
The rapper was reportedly due to attend a hearing today (January 6th) related to his divorce proceeding with Nicole Young. The couple has been married for 24 years and announced their separation last year.
