Donald Trump sizes up Elvis Presley: “Could I have taken him in a fight?”

Amid the war with Iran, President Donald Trump was at Graceland on March 23rd and asked the big questions, like whether he could have beaten prime Elvis Presley in a fight.

The visit to one of America’s most famous homes was rather last-minute, but, as Trump was in the area after overseeing a law enforcement roundtable at a Tennessee Air National Guard hangar, he popped by Graceland.

While at Graceland, Trump was brought into the Jungle Room and invited to answer questions from journalists about ‘The King’.

However, he became unstuck when asked to name his favourite song. After a little help from the tour guide, Trump eventually answered, “She just mentioned one of them…’Hurt’.” The president added, in vague terms, of his love of Elvis, “He’s got so many. There’s very few I don’t like.”

Trump was also informed of Presley’s black belt karate skills while in the Jungle Room, which prompted him to ask, “Could I have taken him in a fight?” In response, the Graceland employee said Presley “would have been respectful enough to let you win”.

Additionally, the president’s visit saw him sign a replica of a guitar that Elvis used, which he used as an opportunity to put down his predecessor, Joe Biden, claiming that he “couldn’t do that”.

Trump was then blown away by discovering that Presley had carpet installed on the ceiling of the Jungle Room to enhance recording sessions, declaring, “He was way before his time… carpet on the ceiling.”

Earlier in the day, Trump expressed his regret at never meeting Presley and revealed that he’s previously been tempted to lie about their paths crossing, sharing, “I met Sinatra. I knew all of them. I never met Elvis. Sometimes I feel I should tell little fibs that I knew him… I love Elvis, but I never met him. But I’m going to go see Graceland after this.”

Per USA Today, Trump said it was “something I could never say” when asked if people will one day make pilgrimages from across the world to visit Mar-a-Lago like they do with Graceland, before adding of his Florida residence, “That’s a special place too.”

His visit to Graceland coincided with Trump, on the same day, announcing a five-day pause of strikes on Iran as negotiations continue over a possible deal. Iran has denied that any talks have taken place.
