Donald Trump says Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance is a “slap in the face” to America
Donald Trump has hit out at Bad Bunny‘s triumphant Super Bowl performance, which he described as a “slap in the face” to the USA.
Bad Bunny made history at the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco by becoming the first artist in history to perform a halftime set entirely in Spanish.
The Puerto Rican star’s set had been turned into a political football before the show kicked off, with Turning Point USA even live-streaming an alternate Super Bowl halftime event featuring Kid Rock as an act of protest. However, once Bad Bunny began his set, he had the entirety of the stadium in San Francisco and millions at home in party mode.
His 13-minute set saw a genuine wedding take place, Lady Gaga join him as a special guest, as well as special appearances from Cardi B, Ricky Martin, Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal.
At the end of his set, a billboard behind Bad Bunny read on-stage, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love” and “Together, We Are America”, which summarised the message of his performance.
Although Bad Bunny’s set has been widely celebrated, President Donald Trump, who previously said it was “crazy” for the Super Bowl to book him despite not hearing any of his songs, didn’t get the memo.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.”
He added, “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History! “
Trump complaining continued, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD”.
