Donald Trump impersonator on ‘South Park’ says credit is a “double-edged sword”
An impersonator who recently played the role of Donald Trump as a parody in South Park says the prospect of being credited for his appearance in the show is a “double-edged sword”.
Dennis Alan, who took on the part of the US president during an infamous moment in the show’s series 27 premiere, which depicted Trump stripping naked in a desert and subsequently revealing small animated genitals, revealed that the scene had actually been filmed originally five years ago.
Speaking in a recent interview with the Metro, Alan discussed how he had developed the concept of the scene with South Park’s creators, Trey Park and Matt Stone, but that he had mixed feelings about ultimately not being credited for his work on the show.
“I asked South Park about crediting me, and they said I should use the emails between us where I arranged for the re-use of the footage,” he explained, before going on to note how this has both benefits and drawbacks.
Alan added: “Accreditation would be a double-edged sword for me because I try to ride the line where I’m enjoyed by Trump supporters and people who are anti-Trump. I don’t do political rallies, I usually make myself available for things that are funny.”
Acknowledging how this was brought into the crossfire after the President himself condemned the show, the actor conceded: “On one hand, I’m OK with Trump supporters not necessarily knowing that it’s me. With anti-Trump people, I’m able to show them I’m willing to participate in this type of media.”
The most recent series of South Park has attracted attention for its mockeries of the current US Republican government, including that of the president as well as many of his administration officials, such as Kristi Noem.
