Donald Trump blasts “absolutely ridiculous” decision to book Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl

Donald Trump has condemned the NFL for booking Bad Bunny to headline the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

Last week, it was confirmed that Bad Bunny would be taking to the stage at halftime at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in February during the NFL season finale. Following the announcement, conservative commentators such as Megyn Kelly have expressed their outrage.

The musician, real name Benito Antonio Ocasia, performs entirely in Spanish, which has been the main reason for the ire. He has also publically criticised the ongoing ICE raids, and admitted last month that it was the reason why he chose to avoid performing in the US on his ongoing world tour.

Now, during an appearance on NewsMax’s Greg Kelly Reports on October 6th, Kelly posed to Trump, “The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny rabbit or whatever his name is. This guy, who hates ICE, he doesn’t like you, he accuses everything he doesn’t like of racism.”

Kelly continued, “Do you think maybe we should entertain an NFL boycott or something along those lines? This guy does not seem like a unifying entertainer and a lot of folks don’t even know who he is.”

Trump then revealed that he isn’t familiar with the Puerto Rican rapper, who has almost 80 million monthly unique listeners on Spotify, before sharing his disappointment at the NFL’s decision to hire him for the Super Bowl.

The president said: “I never heard of him, I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s like, crazy.”

Trump continued his tirade, “Then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Bad Bunny hosted the premiere of Saturday Night Live over the weekend and poked fun at the criticism that has come his way in recent days. “I’m very happy. And I think everyone is happy about it. Even Fox News,” he said with a smile during his monologue.

He also switched up the language of his speech to share his gratitude in Spanish: “Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”

Ocasio concluded by joking, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
