Dolly Parton hopes to premiere on Broadway in 2025

Dolly Parton recently revealed that she has dreamt of making a Broadway musical for “many, many years” and is currently working on 9 to 5, her forthcoming production.

The Grammy winner has said a show about her life and career has long been an ambition, and she hopes to do a talent search to find the right performers for it.

“Right now,” she told People, “I’m working on my life story as a musical, and so going on Broadway and opening my show on Broadway, that’s been a biggie in my mind for many, many years.”

She joked that this was the project she wanted to get done “while I’m still kicking”. Parton, who is 78, expects to fulfil that aim by “late ’25” and has already written the music and half the script.

She hopes there will be at least three performers playing her at various stages of her life and may embark on a “Finding Dolly” contest to discover the perfect “little Dolly”.

“We’re going to be auditioning and trying to find them through different means,” she explained, envisioning an Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque talent show.

“I think that’ll be fun for people, too. You never know where you’re going to find them. They may never have been on stage before, or maybe in some local theatre somewhere, but we’re going to look for them, and that’s going to be part of the fun,” she concluded.
