Warner Brothers have unveiled the first trailer for Mike Flanagan’s new film Doctor Sleep.
The film, which is set years after the events of The Shining, Ewan McGregor stars as an adult Danny Torrance, a man with psychic powers known as “the shining”.
“I don’t know about magic… I always called it ‘The shining.'”
Doctor Sleep, an adaptation of the King novel by the same name, will see McGregor play alongside Jacob Tremblay, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Bruce Greenwood, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Jocelin Donahue and more.
Flanagan direct the film alongside producing partner, Trevor Macy who will introduce Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg into the mix. Director Flanagan has plenty of experience in the role having already been the brains behind Netflix’s adaptation of the King suspense novel Gerald’s Game and, of course, the hit show The Haunting of Hill House.
“Doctor Sleep follows Danny Torrance, a middle-aged man drifting through America in order to shed his father’s alcoholism which passed down to him in order to forget the events of The Shining,” according to the film’s synopsis. “After landing into a small Massachusetts town and with the aid of a cat, he becomes ‘Doctor Sleep”‘ After meeting a young girl with the most powerful shining Danny’s ever seen, he must now face the demons of his past and the demons of the present in order to save her from a horrifying evil known as ‘The True Knot’.”
The film is being readied for a cinema release in January 2020 and, as the excitement builds, the first clip has been unveiled:
