Disturbed frontman David Draiman booed during Black Sabbath farewell show

Disturbed frontman David Draiman was booed as he played a support slot at the Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath farewell show.

The crowd of 40,000 at Birmingham’s Villa Park did not take too kindly to Draiman, who usually plays with the Chicago rock band Disturbed. On July 5th, he was part of a supergroup performing the Black Sabbath tune, ‘Sweet Leaf’.

Draiman was joined on stage by guitarists Jake E.Lee and Adam Wakeman, Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin, ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.

Draiman simply responded to the crowd, “We gonna start this?”, otherwise ignoring the backlash his presence faced. The booing is most likely related to Daiman’s views on the conflict in the Middle East, given that he is vocal in his support for Israel in the war against Hamas.

Draiman recently shared a photo of himself signing artillery shells used by the IDF in its assault on Gaza. It included the inscription, “Fuck Hamas”. The frontman also reached out to Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong to discuss the “Israeli/Jewish side” of the ongoing war in the Middle East, after Green Day’s headline set at Coachella saw Armstrong alter lyrics to support Palestine.

Ozzy and Black Sabbath return to their hometown, 56 years after they formed, for a night of final celebration and a farewell of kings for the legendary band. The show titled ‘Back to the Beginning’ included Steven Tyler, Soundgarden, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Mastodon, Tool, as well as members of Limp Bizkit, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Megadeth, Van Halen, Ghost, and Faith No More.

‘Paranoid’ was the final song that echoed throughout Villa Park. Their short set began with ‘War Pigs’, followed by ‘N.I.B’ and then by ‘Iron Man’. Before the band’s final set, Osbourne had rattled through hits like ‘Crazy Train’ and ‘Suicide Solution’.

“It’s the last song ever,” Ozzy yelled from his throne. “Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
