Deep Purple to play special show at the Royal Albert Hall in London

Deep Purple are set to play a special one-off show at the Royal Albert Hall in London later this year.

The classic rock band revealed the announcement on February 3rd, in what is billed as a historic night and a “full-throttle Deep Purple rock show” for the ages, returning to the venue where one of the most significant moments in their tenure was created.

It was at the Royal Albert Hall in September 1969 that Deep Purple became the first ever rock band to perform a classical concerto alongside a full-size orchestra, producing their groundbreaking live album, Concerto for Group and Orchestra

As such, the band are set to return to the hallowed halls of the iconic venue on November 25th, as the final date of their massive UK tour taking place this year.

The show at the Royal Albert Hall will come at the end of a run of dates that sees the rockers perform at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham, AO Arena in Manchester, and another London gig the night before the Albert Hall, this time at the Eventim Apollo.

For the special final show, the band are set to be joined by Jayler, who are also supporting them over the course of their other five dates around the country.

Off the back of the critically acclaimed success of Deep Purple’s most recent album, =1 released in 2024, the tour will serve as a chance to see the five-piece still tearing up the stages as loudly as they first did throughout the peak of their career.

However, the shows will also potentially mark a poignant moment for the band’s guitarist Ian Gillan, who revealed last year that his eyesight has deteriorated to around 30 per cent, and that he is considering retirement.

He told Uncut at the time: “I think if I lose my energy I’m going to stop. I don’t want to be an embarrassment to anyone. We’re not far off that. It creeps up on you – you don’t really notice.”

Tickets for the rest of Deep Purple’s UK tour are already available, while their show at The Royal Albert Hall is set to go on sale from February 6th at 10am GMT.
