Debbie Harry wants to work with Johnny Depp
One of them is a music industry icon who regularly dabbles in acting, while the other is a Hollywood stalwart who dabbles in music, but the fates have yet to conspire in a way that’s brought Debbie Harry and Johnny Depp together.
However, if the Blondie legend ends up getting her wish, then it won’t be the case forever. While her status as the lead singer of the influential band will always be the defining creative outlet of her career, Harry has never been a slouch when it comes to transplanting her talents to the silver screen.
David Cronenberg’s Videodrome, James Mangold’s Cop Land, and John Waters’ Hairspray are three of her most notable film credits in a decades-long flirtation with acting that’s made Harry a regular fixture in both film and television.
Depp, meanwhile, has performed with Oasis, Iggy Pop, Shane MacGowan, Aerosmith, and Jeff Beck, not to mention his status as a member of the supergroup Hollywood Vampires alongside Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen.
Hypothetically, should the stars ever align then Harry and Depp could potentially partner up on either screen or stage, but in an interview with Metro where she ruminated on the “very long list of directors and actors that I would love to work with,” the former Pirates of the Caribbean star emerging at the top of the pile hints that she’d prefer the first-time pairing happened on celluloid.
“I was just talking with one of our crew about Johnny Depp, somebody I’ve always admired,” she said. Although Harry hasn’t “thought of anything specific” about what her dream role would be with or without Depp, that didn’t prevent her from daydreaming about reaching the biggest role possible.
“I would certainly like to do a character in a major, big picture, but I’m sure everyone else in the business would like the same thing,” Harry continued. “I think that I’ve worked with some wonderful directors, so that’s been something that I really cherish.”
Depp remains at the top of her wish list, and given his regular forays into the world of music and close friendships with several long-tenured and legendary performers on a similar level to Harry, it can’t be ruled out by any stretch that the dynamic duo may yet end up working together in some capacity.
Even in her late 70s, Harry shows no signs of slowing down, so it would be foolish to bet against her uniting with Depp eventually if she sets her mind to it.
