Debbie Harry reveals her dream actor for a potential Blondie biopic

Choosing someone to play your likeness can be infinitely difficult, but not, it seems, for Debbie Harry. She has revealed exactly which actor she’d want to play Blondie in any upcoming biopic.

Speaking to The Times, Harry shared her thoughts on who might be best to emulate her in a story of her life. She revealed, “If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven.”

She continued, “I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.”

There’s a possibility that Harry is aware of comments the Midsommar actor had previously made, way back in 2020. Speaking at a panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Pugh was asked what famous figures she might want to portray on screen in the future. In response, the Oscar-nominated actress shared, “Blondie, just because she’s so cool.”

Pugh often dabbles in the music industry. She has previously featured in a music video with indie-folk band Flyte, as well as starring as a doctor in the music video for Yungblud’s hit ‘Zombie’. Throughout the video for the ballad, clips of Yungblud performing in a hospital room are interspliced with emotional moments of Pugh staring into the distance.

Blondie has new music on the horizon. In September, she confirmed that the band’s 12th album is complete and will be called High Noon. It was produced by John Congleton and has been in the works for several years. Before the passing of drummer Clem Burke earlier this year, Blondie had already completed work on the album.

At this stage, no release date has been revealed for High Noon.

Harry’s musing comes at a time when biopics are rife in the film industry. Next up, Jeremy Allen White will play Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biopic charting how he isolated himself and dealt with emotional issues in order to create his 1982 album, Nebraska.
