Debbie Harry believes Donald Trump’s election win is a “terrible outcome” for America
Blondie singer Debbie Harry has condemned Donald Trump and labelled the Republican politician’s election win as a “terrible outcome” for America.
Since Trump’s inauguration in January, a key part of his administration’s regime has been the cost-cutting measures it is implementing as part of the Department of Government Efficiency. The reduced funding has hit a vast number of areas hard, including Planned Parenthood, which is close to Harry’s heart.
On April 24th, the Blondie singer appeared at the 2025 Planned Parenthood Gala in New York City, which was a fundraising event. Harry shared her thoughts on Trump, telling The Mirror US: “If you ask me questions about Donald Trump, I don’t really approve of much of what he does.”
Harry continued: “I’ve always appreciated Planned Parenthood very much. I think that they’re very smart and doing the right thing for women. And when it comes to women, I feel very strongly that we have been kicked around for far too long, and this is a terrible outcome of his presidency, and I hope that somehow we can change all that.”
This is not the first time Harry has been critical of Trump. Before the 2020 election, which Trump lost to Joe Biden, the Blondie vocalist said: “Of course, I don’t really agree with the things he believes in or refuses to acknowledge.”
She added: “I think we are suffering from his lack of acknowledgement of the seriousness and the desperation of the people. And the fact that he is a racist is unacceptable.”
The recent appearance at the Planned Parenthood Gala marks the first time that Harry has appeared in public since the death of Blondie drummer Clem Burke earlier this month aged 70 following a private battle with cancer.
Following his passing, Harry and her bandmate Chris Stein described Burke as “the heartbeat of Blondie” in a joint statement, noting, “His talent, energy, and passion for music were unmatched, and his contributions to our sound and success are immeasurable.”
