David Squires delves into… the infamous meeting of Oasis and the Italian mafia?

In one of the finest quotes ever attributed to a musician, Noel Gallagher once described his brother as a man with a fork in the world of soup. Such a disposition made Oasis ripe for disputes.

One of the most famous arose in 2002 as the wheels seemed to be coming off the whole operation. The enterprise was awash with excesses, not least the production on Be Here Now, and their latest European tour seemed doomed. However, few expected that this tinderbox would be ignited by the Italian mafia, as seemed to be the case when the band checked into the Bayerischer Hotel.

This incident has since become enshrined in myth and hearsay, but cartoonist David Squires knows the truth. Was it the mob? What part did peanuts have to play? How many Oasis albums are actually worth their salt? All of these questions and more are finally put to rest in the monochrome etchings of Oasis vs The Mob.

In a tale of Shameless meets The Sopranos, Squires finally gets to grips with the truth of the matter behind the grisly fable. Following on from his indictment of the WKD Family and depiction of Van Morrison’s elderly years, this latest instalment by the cartoonist is a caper crushingly close to laddish 2000s reality.

Welcome to the unabated truth of what really happened in Munich.
