David Squires delves into… the cult hit of Angine de Poitrine

There’s no doubt about it, Angine de Poitrine have undoubtedly been the biggest breakthrough Pythagorean hotdog obsessives of 2026. Math rock is back on the map.

The grooving natives of Saguenay, Quebec, have captivated a legion of new fans, from toddlers drawn in by the polka dots and strange rhythms to Tool fans fussing over the intricacy of their atonalism. And all Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine have had to say for it is, “Ak, ak, ak”.

Hailing from a strange town that has a peculiar pyramid of its own, the duo are also, oddly, a symbol of defiance. Back in the days of Russian totalitarianism, artists turned towards surrealism, absurdity, and rhythm to subvert the times with something that fittingly interplayed with the mania and subverted it into fun.

In his latest comic for Far Out, David Squires looks into how that might catch on, charting ‘The Inexorable Rise of Angine de Poitrine’ in a journey that takes them from Ontario to The Ed Sullivan Show. Enjoy…
