David Lee Roth criticises Wolfgang Van Halen

Rock vocalist David Lee Roth has criticised Wolfgang Van Halen, suggesting he is a product of nepotism due to his late father Eddie, describing him as a “fuckin’ kid”.

On January 24th, Lee Roth posted a video titled This Crazy Kid to his YouTube channel after changing its original name from This Fuckin’ Kid. The clip, which comprises a radio-style voiceover and a rolling set of press photos of the former Van Halen vocalist, and not actual footage of him, begins with a loaded skit between Lee Roth and “Jesus Christ”.

“We’re told you have a message for mankind,” asks Lee Roth before the fictional son of God delivers it. “Bro,” he says. “I just want people to know, okay, I got this job because of my talents, okay? I would’ve had this job anyway, even if my dad wasn’t God.”

Evidently, it’s a metaphor wherein Lee Roth draws a parallel between the supposedly nepotistic means Jesus got his job and how Wolfgang Van Halen forged a musical career due to his father’s prominence and not his own “talent”. Notably, Eddie Van Halen passed away from cancer in 2020 and is widely deemed one of the greatest guitarists ever.

Following this skit, Lee Roth recounted two alleged incidents involving Wolfgang when he toured as Van Halen’s bassist. Both involve throwing out women he thought were groupies, who were actually the band’s accountants.

“And what I don’t know is this kid, this schlemiel kid, has commandeered a couple of monkeys to go in back, behind my back, over to the side of the stage and throw out these two great dames that I invited to be my guests to the show,” Lee Roth claims. “And he throws them out of the building. He’s teaching me a lesson. What this fucking kid doesn’t know, they’re carrying the paychecks for all 82 people on the road crew.”

Allegedly, the second incident occurred at the Hollywood Bowl in 2015. He claims that as he was about to “launch” into the track ‘Ice Cream Man’, “this fuckin’ kid”, got two security guards to find the woman who was his guest in the wings and throw her out. He said: “They find her, make her do the walk of shame past all the other guests, out into the parking lot and throw her out of the building!”

Lee Roth added: “Wolfie Van Halen’s gonna teach me a lesson by throwing out what he thinks is my girlfriend. But guess what? Not only is this an accountant again, and not only is she carrying the paychecks for 82 of us on the road crew, but she’s carrying cash bonuses for everybody there. You may wanna pull over on this next one; you’re gonna pee your pants. Remember New York City? It’s the same fuckin lady!”

Just last week, Lee Roth claimed that the man who replaced him as Van Halen singer, Sammy Hagar, had been “sex probed” by aliens in a similar YouTube video.
