David Gilmour confirms he’s working on a new album
It has been confirmed that the Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour is currently in the process of working on a new album.
His ongoing studio project was brought to public attention after his wife, Polly Samson, shared photos of her husband at British Grove Studios recently. It would appear from the images that he is currently collaborating with the likes of Brian Eno, Goldie and Guy Pratt.
The producer Charlie Andrew, known for his work with the likes of Alt-J, Marika Hackman and Suvi, is also present in the pictures. This means that the record has an all-star cast and will almost certainly herald a full-band progressive approach.
The project would mark Gilmour’s first since 2015’s Rattle That Lock. Since then, he has released the odd stand-alone single, but has kept talk of a new record down to a minimum. He also hasn’t been on stage since 2016.
As of yet, the finer details of the project are unclear with confirmation only coming to light when Samson spoke to the Romanian publication Zile si Nopti in promotion of her new novel, A Theatre for Dreamers. She then later shared her array of studio photos.
Gilmour himself previous said in March, “Life is to be continued, music is to be continued, I have every intention of making another album. My intention is for it not to take nine years this time, but there’s no promises.”
The hope is that if its already in the studio stage, with tracks seemingly being mixed based on the photos, then it may well be on the way in 2024.
