David Byrne releases new single, ‘T-Shirt’
David Byrne has released a brand new single, with the title of ‘T-Shirt’.
The former Talking Heads frontman has produced another customarily zany masterpiece, with the artwork for the song showing a crumpled white t-shirt with the slogan, “Well-behaved women seldom make history” emblazoned over it.
Subsequently, as the track opens with a deep-seated synth beat, Byrne sings in the opening line: “My beliefs are on this t-shirt”.
The surprise release of the song has been paired with the release of an official video, which displays t-shirts with a variety of different slogans written across them, not limited to “Make America Gay Again” and “Fight today for a better tomorrow!”
The song marks a return to Byrne’s prolific collaborative partnership with Brian Eno, as the pair co-wrote the song. Eno previously worked with Byrne on a number of Talking Heads albums over the years, as well as their hit 1981 album, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.
‘T-Shirt’ comes not long off the back of Byrne’s latest album, Who Is The Sky?, which he released to critical acclaim in September.
However, the most recent months have seen the singer on the road as well as taking inspiration from other artists, namely Lorde, whose performance style he said “completely knocked me out”.
The 73-year-old musician is currently in the midst of a tour of North America, where he will next perform at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California, on November 18th.
However, he is also set to head to the UK early next year, performing dates in Cardiff, London, Glasgow, and Manchester in March before headlining Latitude Festival in Suffolk during the summer.
