David Bowie’s unheard ‘Let’s Dance’ demo released to mark his 71st birthday
Today makes what would have been the late, great David Bowie’s 71st birdhay. To mark the occasion, Parlophone Records have released a previously unreleased early demo of his 1983 hit single ‘Let’s Dance’.
The track, which became a major worldwide hit and featured on the 1983 album of the same name, was recorded a year previously after Nile Rodgers travelled to Bowie’s home in Switzerland to work on new material.
“I woke up on my first morning in Montreux with David peering over me,” Rodgers explained in a statement. “He had an acoustic guitar in his hands and exclaimed, ‘Nile, darling, I think this is a HIT!’
“The time we spent mixing it just before Christmas was full of tears as it felt like David was in the room with us. Happy Birthday David, I love you and we all miss you!”
