Parlophone Records has released ‘I Can’t Read’, the previously unreleased David Bowie song which was recorded back in 1997.
The track is taken from the upcoming new Bowie EP Is It Any Wonder?, a six-track record made up of previously unreleased and rare tracks dating back through Bowie’s career.
‘I Can’t Read’ was originally featured on eponymous 1998 debut album from Tin Machine, David Bowie’s hard rock supergroup which included the likes of Hunt Sales, Reeves Gabrels and Tony Fox Sales.
“In the autumn of 1996, during the mixing stages for [1997’s] Earthling, Bowie re-recorded the track—which, at one stage, appeared on a mastered version of the album,” a press release states.
“While the song’s second incarnation ‘I Can’t Read ‘97’ was Bowie’s preferred solo version, it was ultimately cut from Earthling and replaced at the last minute with ‘The Last Thing You Should Do’,” it continues.
