Dave Grohl’s daughter, Violet Grohl, making debut album
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl‘s daughter, Violet Grohl, is reportedly recording her debut album.
Violet has been experimenting with music performance since 2018, when she joined her dad’s band Foo Fighters on tour, providing lead and backing vocals for several gigs. Her most recent performances include Foo Fighters 2022’s tribute concerts held for late drummer Taylor Hawkins, where she provided vocals for the band’s cover of Jeff Buckley‘s ‘Last Goodbye’ and ‘Grace’. She also appeared during their set at Glastonbury in 2023, singing ‘Show Me How,’ a track her father penned for his late mother.
The production of this forthcoming album was recorded in a studio space her dad Dave gave her for her birthday, and Justin Raisen was introduced as the record’s producer. Raisen’s most recent credits include Charli XCX, Lil Yachty and Kim Gordon’s grammy nominated album No Home Record.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Violet has an album’s worth of material at her disposal but no official release structure. While Foo Fighters are signed to the Sony Music subsidiary Roswell via RCA Records, Violet is still an unsigned artist, and therefore, it’s unclear when the album will be released.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source described Violet as a “true torch singer” and said, “Her vocals are tremendous. She’s very talented.”
In 2021, her father, Dave, also heaped artistic praise on Violet, describing her as “an incredibly talented musician” who can “pick up an instrument and learn it within a week.” The former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman continued, “To be her drummer is one of my life dreams.”
During that time period, Dave Grohl described the music Violet was making as shoegaze-inspired, but it hasn’t been confirmed whether this more recent batch of music has a similar sound.
More recently, she has been showcasing her skills on the LA circuit at the Sun Rose, an intimate venue on the Sunset Strip.
In September, Violet deactivated her Instagram account after her father released a statement confirming that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage. In a statement, he wrote, “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
As a result, Foo Fighters cancelled their scheduled headline slot at the Soundside Music Festival and have yet to confirm any future live dates.
