Dave Grohl was visited by Taylor Hawkins in a dream: “It was so fucking real”
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has detailed the dream he had which involved Taylor Hawkins visiting him.
Hawkins, who served as the Foo Fighters drummer for more than a quarter of a century, sadly died, aged 50, in Bogota, Colombia, while the band were on tour in Latin America in 2022.
Following his death, Foo Fighters honoured his legacy by performing two tribute shows, one in Los Angeles and one in London, which saw Hawkins’ son, Shane, fill in for his late father.
Now, in a new interview with The Guardian, the band’s Nate Mendel revealed that in the aftermath of his death, they “would get together almost every week with the Hawkins family, people who work with us, and just have meals and drink and talk and laugh and cry, together.”
Grohl also opened up about seeing Hawkins in a particularly vivid dream, explaining, “I have had these dreams that seem like visitations.”
He then shared that it is not just Hawkins who has visited him, adding, “Whether it’s from my mother, or my old friend Jimmy, or Kurt, or my father. And in the dreams, I know that I’m dreaming, but those people are here. And it’s as if they’ve never left.”
Reflecting specifically on his dream that featured Hawkins, he shared, “I fell asleep on a couch, like this one, in front of a television. I thought that I’d woken up, and he was sitting right next to me.”
“It was so fucking real. He was happy. His hair looked great; he was tan,” Grohl added of the dream, before divulging, The first thing I said was: oh my God, we miss you so much. He smiled. I said, where are you? And he smiled again and said: ‘Dude –’.”
Sadly, for Grohl, that is when the dream came to an abrupt end, adding, “And I woke up. I was like: fuck, I almost had it!”
The Foo Fighters frontman’s latest comments come after he recently told MOJO that Hawkins’ latest death “was never meant to be”, and admitted, “That threw our world upside down and made me question everything about life, that it was so unfair. I still have a hard time making sense of it.”
Foo Fighters are set to release their new album, Your Favorite Toy, their second record since Hawkins’ death on April 24th, which they have previewed today (March 20th) with the new single, ‘Caught in the Echo’.
Foo Fighters will be taking their new record on the road this summer across North America and Europe. Their jaunt will kick off in June 2025 at the Unity Arena in Oslo, Norway on June 10th, before the rock legends will travel to Stockholm, Warsaw, Munich and Paris.
At the end of June, Foo Fighters will arrive in the United Kingdom for two shows at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool on June 25th and June 27th. They also have a number of festival headline dates in the calendar across the continent.
