Dave Franco “open” to playing Luigi Mangione in a biopic
Dave Franco has responded to online speculation that he is the right choice to play alleged murderer Luigi Mangione in a biopic.
Mangione has been charged with killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, on December 4th, 2024. Mangione is currently in Brooklyn Detention Centre, and a trial date is yet to be confirmed, but it is believed to be planned for 2026.
Now, in the most recent episode of Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Franco appeared in promotion of his new horror film Together with wife Alison Brie and revealed that he is “open” to the idea of playing the alleged killer.
A fan had asked the question via the show, to which Franco initially responded, “Oh, how do I answer this?”
He continued, “Um… no one has approached me about it yet, I’ll say that.” Franco added, “More people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened. So let’s just say I’m open if it’s the right people, and let’s leave it at that.”
The Mangione case is still ongoing, with the accused awaiting trial fter being indicted on 11 state charges and four federal ones, including first-degree murder, with federal prosecutors seeking the death penalty in his case. No feature film is yet to be confirmed; however, several documentaries were announced in the wake of his charges.
As for Franco, he is currently promoting his new horror film Together off the back of the announcement that he is set to appear in the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You, as well as a sequel in the Now You See Me series. Franco has also recently received an Emmy nomination for his guest role on Seth Rogen’s series The Studio.
