Dave Chappelle’s surprise Netflix special tackles Israel and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
Dave Chappelle surprised fans of his contentious comedy after releasing a Netflix special that tackles everything from Israel and Gaza to the late politician Charlie Kirk.
The controversial comedian surprise-dropped Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable, after an announcement ahead of the Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua boxing fight.
The synopsis for the special reads, “Facing a world gone sideways, comedy icon Dave Chappelle delivers bold truths and potent punchlines in this no-holds-barred special.”
During the Chappelle show, the comedian references the recent controversy surrounding the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. While performing at the festival, he joked, “It’s easier to talk here than it is in America,” in reference to the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show.
He laughed, “I don’t feel guilty at all.” He went on to address the accusations that this stance suggests he has no empathy towards the Saudi government’s killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Chappelle added, “And rest in peace, Jamal Khashoggi. I’m sorry that he got murdered in such a heinous fashion.”
He went on, “I mean, look, bro, Israel’s killed 240 journalists in the last three months, so I didn’t know y’all was still counting.”
Revealing that he made a hefty sum out of the performance, he joked, “You know what my new job is? I sit by the phone and wait for them Arabs to call me.”
After a transgender joke or two, Chappelle also references Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ recent arrest, sharing: “It’s not a crime to have a thousand bottles of baby oil,” he says. “It’s gross, but it’s not illegal.”
Later, he again references the murder of Charlie Kirk, as well as conspiracy theorists and Donald Trump.
Amid the big swings, Chappelle also reveals that he has personally spent around $2 million to help address homelessness in the city of Ohio, his current home state. He shares that he has bought up much of Ohio, which has allowed him to convert an old firehouse into a comedy and music venue. At most, it is a varied display of topical opinions that will have Chappelle fans and haters talking.
Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable is available on Netflix now.
