Pour one out for the end of times, because this world is going to Hell: national treasure and noted trash man Danny DeVito temporarily lost his verification on Twitter today.
Initially, it was believed that DeVito lost the verification due to his Tweets supporting the strike that Nabisco workers are staging. A Twitter spokesperson stepped in and denied that this was the case.
“The account referenced was debadged temporarily because the account’s information was incomplete,” the spokesperson explained. “Our verification policy states that blue badges may be automatically removed from inactive and incomplete accounts, which require a confirmed email address or phone number. We have worked with the account holder to confirm the necessary information and the account’s verification has since been restored.”
Whether that’s the truth or not, DeVito’s verification was reinstated in less than a few hours. Rumours that Twitter initially sent their monkey testicle assassins are currently also unverified.
Of course, as they’re prone to do, fans had a field day when they realised that the sexiest man alive was no longer blue-check verified. Many a quote from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was thrown across social media, featuring DeVito’s completely reasonable and calm-tempered character Frank Reynold’s reacting in a diplomatic fashion.
Even Dan Rather got in on the fracas, meaning that we are somehow in both the best and worst current timeline of our existence.
This is all fun, but if you want to learn more about why Nabisco workers are striking, you can check that out here. In the meantime, let’s all celebrate DeVito’s re-verification with a song.
