Cyndi Lauper on Glastonbury set plagued by technical issues: “I couldn’t hear the band”
Cyndi Lauper has reflected upon her set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2024, which was plagued by technical issues.
Lauper is currently on her farewell tour, which included a stop at Glastonbury. Taking to the stage in the early afternoon on June 29th, 2024, Lauper attracted a sizeable crowd to her set as she commenced her final appearance at the iconic festival before retirement.
However, despite the excitement that surrounded her performance, it failed to meet expectations due to the problems that Lauper faced.
Speaking to The Times, Lauper said of the beleaguered Glastonbury set, “I couldn’t hear the band and that sucked. I wanted to be really great.”
Following the set at Glastonbury, she told BBC Breakfast in an interview that was broadcast the day after the concert, “Sometimes you’re up there and the sound is like, ‘What?’.”
She added: “But it doesn’t matter because the spirit is there… The spirit of those people. That was great. I had fun.”
Last year, Lauper returned to the United Kingdom to headline an arena tour. She is set to perform in Australia and Japan next month before returning to the United States for a final set of tour dates this summer, which concludes in Los Angeles with two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29th and August 30th.
The singer previously opened up about her decision to retire while on Jimmy Kimmel Live, explaining to the host: “For me, I wanted to have a chance to do this when I’m feeling strong. I want to celebrate with people. Really celebrate with people, and make it fun.”
