Crew members injured on set of new Eddie Murphy movie

An action sequence being filmed on the set of the upcoming movie The Pickup, starring Eddie Murphy, on April 20th went wrong, resulting in several incidents.

The movie, directed by Tim Story for Amazon MGM Studios, stars Murphy alongside Keke Palmer, Eva Longoria and former Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. Thankfully, none of these actors were present during the accident.

“It was a completely freak accident,” an anonymous spokesperson said to the The Associated Press. “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.” Several people involved in the stunt were injured, with a few people ending up with broken bones.

“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result. We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering,” the spokesperson said.

Little has been revealed about the details of the accident, although The Associated Press explained that a truck “locked up and hit a car.”

“The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot,” says the spokesperson.

It was a second-unit production, meaning the director and the main stars were absent. Thus, second-unit production was halted on Sunday. Information on when it will resume has not yet been shared.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees is investigating events. “IATSE is aware of an accident that took place on the Georgia set of The Pickup and have started an inquiry,” the spokesperson added.

Filming of The Pickup started earlier this month. Story is also producing the movie alongside John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Murphy. Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows have written the screenplay.

Story made his directorial debut in 1997 with One of Us Tripped before gaining prominence with movies like Barbershop and Fantastic Four. His varied filmography extends to the Ride Along franchise, the animated and live-action feature Tom & Jerry, and the horror comedy The Blackening.

As of yet, very little is known about the plot of The Pickup, and a release date has not yet been announced.

This is a developing story.
