Country star Charley Crockett cancels Canadian tour after being denied entry due to historic drug conviction

Country musician Charley Crockett has cancelled his Canada tour after being refused entry on two occasions to the North American country.

In 2016, Crockett was convicted on drug charges in relation to possessing large quantities of over five pounds of marijuana, which led to his criminal record, according to the letter he received from Canadian authorities explaining why he was denied entry.

The singer-songwriter was due to start a two-week tour of Canada tonight (February 23rd) at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, Alberta, before visiting cities such as Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Announcing the cancellation, Crockett took to Instagram to write, “Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me. I tried to cross the Canadian border twice in 24 hours. After they denied me enter in Vancouver, I tried again in Kelowna and was rejected a 2nd time.”

Crockett added, “I’ve been advised that it would jeopardize my freedom to try and enter again. I’m deeply sorry to announce the cancellation of my entire Canadian tour.”

The singer-songwriter informed fans that “full refunds will be issued at the point of purchase.”

He also apologised to fans, writing, “I know this doesn’t begin to make up for y’all’s time and hard earned money. I apologize to everyone affected. I know I let y’all down.”

His message concluded, “Canada’s such a beautiful country full of some of the best fans in the world, and I’ve had the time of my life playing shows for y’all. I ain’t one to quit and I aim to be back one of these days real soon. Yours truly, Charley.”

Earlier this month, Crockett brought up his conviction while condemning President Donald Trump, highlighting, “Forgive me if I have a problem with a 34 time convicted felon running this country when I lost the right to vote or own a weapon for years over marijuana.”
