Colin Farrell set to star in ‘Sgt Rock’ movie

Colin Farrell is reportedly in talks to star as the superhero leader in Sgt Rock, as the film adaptation of the classic comic is finally brought to the big screen by DC Studios, directed by Luca Guadagnino.

The Irish actor, who previously entered into the DC universe as classic villain Oswald Cobb in 2024 Batman spinoff The Penguin, could now turn to face the good side as the leader of the Easy Company battalion in the World War Two action movie, according to Deadline.

This adaptation of Sgt Rock has been in development for some time after the character first appeared in DC Comics as far back as 1959. The role was allegedly first touted for Daniel Craig, but he is believed to have parted from the project in favour of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming version of Narnia.

If Farrell is confirmed for the role, it looks likely that the movie will be set to film this summer, as DC studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran previously said in February that no offer was ever made to Craig and that they would shoot on the condition “only if we find the perfect actor.”

As a hardened soldier in World War Two, the character Sgt Rock became the subject of one of DC’s most well-known and longest-running comics. Like most of its back catalogue, the studio has sought to transform it into a Hollywood blockbuster, but the process has taken longer than most.

Among the slew of actors who have vied for the part over decades, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have previously been in the mix to bring the character to life.

Aside from Sgt Rock, it remains to be seen whether Farrell will return to his villain role for a second series of The Penguin despite the success of the first season.
