Charli XCX lined up to star in Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’
Charli XCX is reportedly under consideration for a major role in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia adaptation for Netflix.
Deadline report: “The Grammy winner is understood to be among top choices for a key role and there have been talks for a little while but nothing is set at the moment. TBC whether a deal comes to fruition.” They also state they believe she is under consideration to portray Jadis, The White Witch.
Gerwig, whose most recent project was her box-office hit Barbie, has been speculated with a Narnia adaptation in 2022 and she officially confirmed the news in 2023.
The movie will be released in November 2026 in IMAX and will arrive on Netflix a month later on Christmas Day. However, little information has emerged regarding who is expected to star in Gerwig’s new project.
During an interview last year with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Gerwig discussed the pressure of bringing C.S. Lewis’ vision to screen, stating, “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”
She continued: “As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly… it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman.”
Meanwhile, Charli XCX has a busy 2025 ahead of her as she continues to tour Brat and is set to headline festivals worldwide throughout the year. She’s also set to star in the new A24 movie The Moment, which is based on her own idea.
