Coachella 2025: The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega take over Ferris wheel in promotional stunt
During Coachella weekend two, Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd spent three days at the festival promoting their upcoming film, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The promotional festival tour included a Ferris wheel takeover.
Despite their meet-and-greet style publicity, Abel Tesfaye was nearly incognito in a post shared to the film’s Instagram account that revealed their attendance at the festival. In a Raiders hat, shades and a black bandana, the singer was pictured with Ortega.
The cryptic caption read, “When the sun goes down. HURRYUPTOMORROW x Coachella.” The Ferris wheel takeover can be linked to a short clip of the pair riding the same ride in the movie’s trailer.
The Weeknd has been working hard on promoting the film. Recently, CinemaCon attendees were treated to a mini-concert featuring tracks ‘Cry for Me’ and ‘Open Hearts’ from the artist’s new album. He also performed the record-breaking ‘Blinding Lights’.
American director Trey Edward Shults helms the project, which follows a musician struggling with insomnia who “is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.” Hurry Up Tomorrow is an extension of The Weeknd’s album of the same name, which was released earlier this year.
Shults directs from a co-written script alongside Tesfaye and The Idol‘s Reza Fahim. The new film will also star Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan, who appears to be a friend of the star in the trailer.
Ortega previously said Hurry Up Tomorrow is “hard to describe … I haven’t seen a movie quite like it. It’s very soulful. It feels more like an experience, and when you go into it with that mentality, it makes sense.”
The movie will be released in cinemas on May 16th, 2025.
