The co-star who left Tom Holland heartbroken: “Still to this day”

Depending on what you think about Gwyneth Paltrow, you may or may not want to remember her in any kind of movie. But if you’re an actor, a pretty famous one at that, and you’re in a movie with her and she doesn’t remember it whatsoever, then that must be a hard one to take, just ask Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.

That’s because he got a bit upset about the fact that despite Paltrow working with him on 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, she had no recollection of it, and was convinced that it was The Avengers that she appeared in instead.

To be fair to Holland, the movie represented something of a dream come true and the high point of his (admittedly short at that point) career, making him the youngest actor in history to play a title role in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

It was a massive box office hit, starring the likes of Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya and Miss Paltrow, and brought in almost a billion dollars in revenue. Aside from making a global star of Holland, who had popped up in cameo parts in two previous MCU films, it also spawned two mega-money sequels in Far From Home and No Way Home in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

Despite what Paltrow believes, she definitely was in the film, as her usual Marvel character Pepper Potts, a fact that Holland really would like her to remember, as he said to Pop Sugar not long afterwards: “I’ve only worked with Gwyneth one time, on Spider-Man: Homecoming, which she doesn’t remember. Still to this day breaks my heart.”

He did qualify it, however, and gave Paltrow some credit in an interview with GQ Style by saying “I mean, you could be on set and you might not know what planet you’re on or who you’re fighting or who the superhero on your left is,” but added: “I mean, I always know what movie I’m in.

Now, we could do the same in granting Paltrow a bit of a break on this one, but then again, she did exactly the same thing to Sebastian Stan, the ‘Winter Soldier’ no less, not once but three times.

The Avengers: Endgame actor posted a pic of himself and Paltrow at a fashion show and captioned it: “Glad I got to reintroduce myself to Gwyneth Paltrow for the third time. We are in the same film,” followed by a shrugging emoji, which is harsh from Paltrow, let’s be honest.

Plus, she reportedly asked several people who Stan was at the Avengers: Infinity War premiere, which begs the question, given he was one of the main characters, what exactly do you have to do in a movie in order for Paltrow to a) know you who are or b) convince her that she was in the movie too?

At least Holland can dry his eyes with pound notes, given the zero alcohol beer he co-founded with an entrepreneur late last year is already on track to do eight figures in revenue and net him an absolute fortune after it became the best-selling non-alcoholic beer on Amazon.

Paltrow, meanwhile, has a leading role in the new Josh Safdie movie Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, that’s getting some considerable Oscar buzz, but whether or not she’ll remember being in it afterwards is anyone’s guess.
