Clint Eastwood has officially retired, his son confirms

Legendary director Clint Eastwood has officially retired from filmmaking, his son has confirmed.

Eastwood’s decision to step away from the director’s chair shouldn’t come as the greatest surprise to any fans, considering he’s now 96-years-old, but it does still mark the end of an era and a career for the ages.

The news was confirmed by his son, Kyle, who has worked alongside his father as a composer on nine feature films.

His comments were made in a newly surfaced interview with the French publication, France Info, which was recorded in November 2025, stating, “I have many fond memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old.”

Kyle added, “But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me.”

Last year, an interview circulated in the Austrian publication Kurier, in which Eastwood was quoted as saying, “We live in an era of remakes and franchises. I’ve shot sequels three times, but I haven’t been interested in that for a long while. My philosophy is: do something new or stay at home.”

It also claimed that Eastwood is not finished with direction, reporting that he was making another film that is now in pre-production.

In light of the article, Eastwood published a statement, calling it fabricated, insisting, “I can confirm I’ve turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phoney.”

Eastwood’s last film, Juror #2, arrived in 2024, and since then, there have been no official words to suggest that he has any plans to return to directing again.

As an actor, Eastwood’s last on-screen role was in 2021’s Cry Macho, which the four-time Oscar-winner also directed.
