Cillian Murphy reveals new favourite band: “Obsessed”

In a new interview, Cillian Murphy has revealed his current music obsession: the post-rock, underground, and up-and-coming four-piece Geese.

Speaking on a press tour for his new film, Steve, to MTV UK, the Peaky Blinders actor took a second to think before he revealed his favourite artist. He shared, “I’ll say this band because my son went to see them last night. A band called Geese.”

He added, “He’s obsessed with them and has gotten me obsessed. Their frontman, Cameron Winter, also put out an amazing record this year [sic]. So that’s my top tip.”

On September 26th, Cameron Winter, Emily Green, Dominic DiGesu, and Max Bassin released their third album, Getting Killed. A day later, they played a free release show at Banker’s Anchor in Brooklyn for fans to hear much of the widely praised album played live for the first time. The event was a roaring success, with huge crowds congregating on rooftops to catch a glimpse of the show.

Getting Killed received the ‘Album of the Week’ title from Far Out. In the glowing four-and-a-half-star review, Far Out observed, “Winter fully embraces the different flecks of his vocal timbre, not hiding its idiosyncrasies but instead embracing them.

The result of which is a heightened humanisation of the records more tender takes, making it at times, a fitting voice for this obscure new age of indie. Somewhere between humorous, obscure and outright despondent, he, along with the rest of this band, has become a bastion of twisted hope on Getting Killed.

Murphy’s upcoming film, Steve, follows a single day for the protagonist, a stressed headteacher struggling with his own mental health and alcohol abuse, as he simultaneously tries to keep a reform school for troubled teenage boys from closing down. It will enjoy a global Netflix release on October 3rd.
