Cillian Murphy shares his favourite spring songs in new playlist

Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy has shared a selection of his favourite songs for the spring season in a new playlist.

Before becoming an actor, Murphy was focused on music and played in a variety of bands during his younger years, including The Sons of Mr. Green Genes. However, he instead chose to pursue theatre which led to a stellar career in film and television. Nevertheless, music remains a strong passion and Murphy occasionally broadcasts on BBC 6 Music.

Now, he’s shared the ‘Spring Sessions’ playlist through his production company, Big Things Films, which he co-founded alongside producer Alan Moloney.

The Instagram caption announcing the playlist reads: “We made it – it’s officially spring! It’s beginning to bloom here at Big Things, so here’s a fresh new playlist from Cillian to bring in the brighter days. Enjoy”.

The varied playlist, which features songs both new and old, includes ‘People Watching’ by Sam Fender, ‘Limelight’ by Tune-Yards, ‘Run Run Run’ by The Velvet Underground and Nico, ‘Love of Country’ by The Murder Capital and ‘Cold Cold Ground’ by Tom Waits.

Other artists that Murphy placed on his playlist include The Beach Boys, Little Simz, Fats Domino, The Band, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Kevin Ayers and Lou Reed.

Murphy has a series of projects which are on the horizon, including the highly-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie which wrapped filming late last year.

On March 31st, Danny Boyle also confirmed that Murphy makes an appearance in 28 Years Later which is set for release in cinemas on June 20th, 2025.

Speaking at CinemaCon, Boyle shared of Murphy’s secretive forthcoming role in the film: “Like all good things in life, you may have to wait a little while for him to make his appearance.”
